Faery by ~theforgery. Eagerly suggested by many people, this metal faery sculpture was not cast, but forged and welded together with a mig welder. It was on display last month at the Hampton Court Palace Flower Show.

This is the side view of a life-sized faery sculpture. She has been created using a combination of mild steel rod and sheet steel forged into shape. Underneath the skin and clothes is a metal framework, a little like a skeleton. Steel rod was also used to make tendons to create a natural effect on the sheet steel skin.
She was built up piece by piece and welded together using a mig welder; she has not been cast.

We've named her Titania after the character in "A Midsummer Night's Dream"

I know a bank where the wild thyme blows,
Where oxlips and the nodding violet grows,
Quite over-canopied with luscious woodbine,
With sweet musk-roses and with eglantine:
There sleeps Titania sometime of the night,
Lull'd in these flowers with dances and delight;
And there the snake throws her enamell'd skin,
Weed wide enough to wrap a fairy in

You'll be able to see her for real at the Hampton Court Palace Flower Show in July 2009.
